The Executive Director of the
Society What is the Submarine
Historical Society, Inc.? The overall goal of the Society is to develop and sponsor a traveling display of submarine artifacts and historical items. We hope to use the display to promote appreciation for submarine community's sacrifices over the past one hundred years. There is an exciting tale to tell about the submarine force. The Society has been organized and has received final approval to operate exclusively for charitable and educational purposes within the meaning of Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986. Why Saving Submarine Artifacts Is Important? 52 submarines lost in World War II, 2 submarines lost in the Cold War, 3,505 shipmates still on eternal patrol from World War II and over 400 shipmates still on eternal patrol since World War II. Today the submarine community is shrinking. With each additional submarine decommissioned, we lose more and more of the submarine community's history. Soon we will have a submarine force with no diesel submarine experience. As the brotherhood of submarine veterans changes, our contributions in the twentieth century will soon be forgotten. |
